The Best Value for Money Cargo eBike

The XPedition2 carries up to 450 lbs total, including a 300 lb rear rack capacity. A torque sensor reads how hard you're pedaling and adjusts power output through Lectric's PWR+ programming, so the assist scales with your effort instead of kicking in all at once.

The frame is UL 2849 certified with a UL 2271 certified battery. The single-battery model covers up to 60 miles per charge with a long-range option available, and the whole package comes in under $1,500.

At Lectric eBikes, we believe that everyone deserves an ebike that's both practical and affordable, and our cargo e-bikes offer the perfect combination of each. So why wait? Upgrade your transportation game today with the best cargo e-bikes on the market.

See for yourself why Electric Bike Journal said, “If you’re looking to get a whole lot of bike for a great deal, the XPedition should be on the top of your list.”

What’s the Best Cargo eBike for Families?

If you're shopping for a cargo ebike with child seat compatibility, the XPedition2's rear rack has two built-in mounting windows for child seats. The rear rack holds up to 300 lbs, which covers a seat, a child and gear at the same time.

Choose the XPedition2 for school runs and errands around town, where the standard single battery covers up to 60 miles per charge. If your family does longer weekend trips or you'd rather charge less often, the XPedition 2 Long Range swaps in a larger dual-battery setup for up to 170 miles per charge, so range isn't something you have to plan around.

Which Cargo eBike Should I Choose?

The best cargo eBike for you depends on what you’re looking to get out of it:

  • Best for hauling kids and heavy loads: The Lectric XPedition2. It carries up to 450 lbs across a 330 lb rider limit and a 300 lb rear rack, with mounting windows for child seats built into the rack itself.
  • Best for everyday errands with occasional cargo: The Lectric XP4. It's not built as a dedicated cargo bike, but its integrated rear rack and foldable frame make it a fit for riders who need to carry groceries or a bag most days without giving up the compact size of a standard eBike.
  • Best for riders who want extra stability: The Lectric XP Trike2. Its three-wheel frame has the lowest standover height in the Lectric lineup, so riders who want more balance at low speeds or a step-through that doesn't require swinging a leg over a top tube have a stable option to carry cargo without a two-wheel bike's balancing act.

Cargo eBike FAQ

What is the Lectric cargo eBike designed for?

The Lectric cargo eBike is specifically designed to carry heavy loads or cargo, making it ideal for transporting groceries, goods, or other bulky items.

How fast does an average cargo e-bike go?

The speed of a cargo ebike can vary depending on factors such as the motor power, battery capacity, and local regulations. On average, cargo ebikes can reach speeds of up to 20 miles per hour when assisted by an electric motor. Our XPedition cargo eBike has been speed tested as a Class 3 eBike.

Are cargo ebikes hard to ride?

While cargo ebikes may appear bulky, they are designed to be user-friendly and easy to ride, even with heavy loads. The addition of an electric motor assists with pedaling and provides extra power when climbing hills or carrying cargo, making riding a cargo ebike a comfortable and manageable experience for most riders.

What’s a long tail cargo eBike vs a front loader?

A long tail cargo eBike extends the rear of the frame to create a longer rack, positioning cargo or a passenger behind the rider. A front loader carries cargo in a bin or platform mounted ahead of the handlebars, in front of the rider. Long tail bikes handle closer to a standard bike since the weight sits over the rear wheel, while front loaders shift the center of gravity forward and can feel different at low speeds until you get used to it. The XPedition is a long tail design.

Do cargo ebikes fit on car racks?

Cargo ebikes can go on a car rack, but the rack needs to be rated for the bike's weight and length. The XPedition weighs around 75 lbs with a battery installed, more than many standard bike racks are built to hold, so a hitch-mounted rack rated for heavier eBikes works best. You can also check out Lectric’s own hitch rack, which holds up to two eBikes and includes an adapter for frames with a sloped top tube.

Can your kid ride on the back of a cargo eBike?

Yes. The XPedition's rear rack has two built-in mounting windows for child seats, so you can add a seat and carry a child behind you. The rack itself is rated for up to 300 lbs, which covers a seat and a child with room to spare for other cargo. Always check the weight and age guidelines on the specific child seat you use, since those limits come from the seat manufacturer rather than the bike.
