Episode 01: Behind the Design of XP4

When we launched the original XP, it quickly became North America’s best-selling eBike – and ever since, our team has been listening, learning, and building toward what’s next.

Now, with the XP4, we’ve brought your most-requested upgrades to life – resulting in our most rider-focused design to date. In Part 1 of our Design Series, our co-founders and Director of Product Development pull back the curtain on the development process behind the XP4.

Top 5 Game Changers

The Lectric team didn’t just tweak the frame, they overhauled the entire riding experience. By swapping out “clunky” old-school parts for high-performance tech, they turned our flagship foldable eBike into a much more intuitive machine.

Here are the top 5 game changers that set the XP4 apart:

  • Keyless Riding: You no longer need to leave a key in the bike to ride. Just lock the battery, pull the key out, and start rolling.
  • Torque Sensor: The bike now "feels" how hard you pedal. Instead of an on/off motor feel, the power scales naturally with your effort.
  • Faster Charging: A new 5-amp charger cuts your wait time in half, taking a dead battery to full in just 3.5 hours.
  • No More "Ghost Pedaling": A custom-designed, larger chain ring ensures you can still feel tension in the pedals even when flying at top speeds.
  • Pro-Level Cockpit:
    • USB-C Port: Charge your phone while you ride.
    • Removable Screen: Pop the display off for security or to prevent damage.
    • Trigger Shifter: Upgraded to a Shimano Altus 8-speed for smoother, more intuitive gear changes.

The Build

To fit a massive 17.5Ah battery and a 750W motor, the frame is slightly beefier. However, Lectric added quick-release pedals to keep the folded footprint thin and portable. Plus, the bike now ships in 100% recyclable cardboard, so no more messy Styrofoam.
