Everyone’s heard of the Florida Keys—but have you discovered Cedar Key? Tucked away on Florida’s Nature Coast about two hours north of Tampa, this quiet island and its surrounding keys are often called Florida’s “other Keys.” It’s a hidden gem perfect for RVers, weekend warriors, and outdoor lovers seeking a slice of Old Florida.

Where to Stay

Cedar Key offers a mix of charming bed and breakfasts, a historic hotel, and several RV parks. One of our favorites is Cedar Key RV Resort—the only spot with monthly options. It features full hookups, a pool, and even pickleball courts.

On the island itself, Low Key Hideaway is a 21+ waterfront RV park with a tiki bar and food truck. It’s a funky, fun base that puts you within easy eBike distance of town.

eBiking the Island

You can easily eBike anywhere on Cedar Key—it’s compact, scenic, and mostly golf-cart friendly. Start your ride with a cruise past the town’s scattered outdoor art displays, or stop by the Cedar Key Arts Center, where you’ll find local art for sale and classes to try.

Glide down 2nd Street to explore quaint shops and restaurants. A morning ride to The Prickly Palm for breakfast is a must! For lunch or dinner, we love 2nd Street Cafe and Steamers—both offer fresh, flavorful seafood. Just next door, Bonish Studios is a quirky local bar perfect for a post-ride drink.

While Dock Street is still recovering from damage during the 2024 hurricane season, many businesses are rebuilding and set to reopen by late 2025. Keep an eye on this stretch—it’s coming back stronger.

Need a perfect beach day? Cedar Key Beach is a short ride from anywhere on the island. We often took our breakfast there and soaked in the sea breeze. From the beach, you can also paddle to Atsena Otie, the original townsite wiped out by a hurricane in 1896. Ruins still scatter the beach, and a trail leads to a historic cemetery. Today, the island is part of the Cedar Keys National Wildlife Refuge, making it one of Florida’s most unique paddle trips.

Another great eBike stop is Cemetery Point Park, home to a boardwalk through mangroves ending at a beach and fishing spot. But really, the whole island is a fisherman’s dream—pack a rod and ride to your next dinner catch!

One of our favorite eBike moments? Catching sunset at the corner of G Street and 1st Street. The views are magical, and the waterfront ride there is just as rewarding.

Beyond the Key

Just a short drive away is the Shell Mound Trail, part of the Lower Suwannee and Cedar Keys National Wildlife Refuges. It’s a scenic hiking spot and great for spotting sandhill cranes, alligators, and other local wildlife.

If you’re up for a longer eBike adventure, the Nature Coast Trail is a must. This 32-mile rail trail winds through forest and swamp along a former railway line. We like to start at Fanning Springs, about 35 minutes by car from Cedar Key. From there, bike to the Suwannee River Bridge, then cool off in the spring-fed waters of Fanning Springs State Park—a refreshing finish to an epic ride.

Why eBiking is the Best Way to Explore Cedar Key

Cedar Key was made for eBiking. The island’s slow pace, minimal traffic, and scenic streets make it ideal for a relaxed, active getaway. Whether you’re riding to breakfast, catching a sunset, or cruising to your next paddle trip, an eBike lets you breathe in the salty air, soak up the sunshine, and experience the charm of Old Florida—at just the right speed.
