Your Guide to E-Biking Hilton Head and Bluffton, South Carolina

Hilton Head, South Carolina, is a destination that invites exploration. From its stunning coastal scenery to the historic charm of nearby Bluffton, the area offers plenty to see and do. Staying in Bluffton gave us the best of both worlds—access to Hilton Head’s iconic attractions and the slower, more relaxed pace of Bluffton. Exploring by e-bike was the perfect way to take it all in.

Where to Stay: Hilton Head National RV Resort

Our base for this trip was Hilton Head National RV Resort, located in Bluffton. This isn’t just any RV park—it’s a resort in every sense of the word. The property is immaculate, with wide, paved roads that make biking around a breeze. We used our Lectric e-bikes daily, whether it was for a quick ride to the pool or a leisurely loop around the grounds.

The resort’s amenities are top-notch. There’s a large pool with plenty of seating, a clubhouse that feels more like a country club, and recreation options like pickleball and a putting green. The sites are spacious and well-maintained, so even when it’s busy, you never feel crowded. Exploring the resort by bike made it easy to appreciate all the little details that make this place special.

Explore Historic Downtown Bluffton

Bluffton feels like stepping back in time. Its historic downtown is compact and walkable, with tree-lined streets and charming old buildings. We parked our bikes and spent the afternoon wandering around.

The Church of the Cross was a highlight. Built in 1857, it sits on the banks of the May River and has a peaceful, almost otherworldly feel. The Gothic Revival architecture is striking, and the surrounding views are just as impressive.

Bluffton also has several parks and coastal spots where you can take in the scenery. The town’s natural beauty pairs perfectly with its quaint shops and art galleries. It’s the kind of place where you can slow down and really soak up the atmosphere.

Discover Hilton Head Island

Hilton Head Island is known for its pristine beaches, world-class golf courses, and family-friendly attractions. While we didn’t spend as much time there as we would’ve liked, here are a few highlights that are perfect for an e-bike adventure:

  • Beach Paths: Hilton Head’s bike paths are some of the best in the country. Many run parallel to the beaches, offering beautiful ocean views while you ride.
  • Sea Pines Forest Preserve: This is a peaceful spot to explore, with trails winding through forests and wetlands. It’s a great escape from the busier parts of the island.
  • Harbour Town: This bustling area is home to the iconic red-and-white lighthouse, shops, and waterfront dining. It’s a fun place to bike around and take in the sights.

Hilton Head Island also boasts an impressive 64 miles of public pathways and nature trails, offering plenty of opportunities for pedestrians and cyclists to explore. With a variety of routes to choose from, it’s easy to navigate your way around the island and find your next adventure.

Where to Eat: Bluffton’s Lowcountry Flavors and a Unique West African Experience

Bluffton and Hilton Head are food lovers’ havens. The region is known for its Lowcountry cuisine, with dishes like shrimp and grits, she-crab soup, and fresh-caught seafood on almost every menu. Whether you’re in the mood for fine dining or casual eats, there’s something for everyone.

One of the standout spots we tried was Okan, a West African restaurant in Bluffton. The menu is bold and creative, with flavors that surprised and delighted us. Every dish felt like it had a story, from savory stews to perfectly seasoned meats. The cozy atmosphere and friendly service made the experience even better. If you’re looking for something different, this is the place to go.
